National
finals at Goodwood 18th October
Reporter Bob Carter
Once again we got excellent weather
for the finals. We had high hopes for a good result as Goodwood is a
smooth track without sharp bends. However at scrutineering we
over-adjusted the brakes to the point that they were binding on
Zebedee. Luckily we had a couple of practice laps to sort this out.
Although we were still on old batteries, Zebedee was able to pull
out a lap lead in the F24+ final which it held on to win in good style.
Brian had our only set of new batteries in a bid to hang onto the
other in-form car in the class (Simple Trug) but alas we were not able
to, and in fact also narrowly lost our 3rd place in the last
seconds of the race. Zebedee got a new lap record (in spite of Livvy
"taking it easy" as per the drivers instructions.....).
In the F24 final both cars started
well and Zebedee was leading by a small margin when it got a puncture
after about 90 minutes when we had to swerve to avoid an errant
slower car. Unfortunately with all the traffic and the old batteries
we were not able to recover from this and finished in 4th place after
Rotary Racer, SCO7 and Rpod. Brian had a quiet race, coming in
10th. It would have finished much higher if we had not forgotten to turn
the power back up for the fresh batteries in the 2nd half of the
race........
So: good day - F24+ national champions and a new lap record, plus
Zebedee got the prize for best engineered car.
