Transport Festival

Once again the
CAUC from Sandbach High School
& 6th Form College for Girls participated in the
Sandbach Transport Festival over the weekend of 18th and 19th
April 2009. For once
the weather was kind and the sun shone all day bringing out many folk
from around the county.
CAUC displayed 2
cars again this year these being Carbon QT and the 2008 Formula 24
Championship winning Zebedee.
Zebedee sported the Greenpower Challenge Trophy and Shield of its
recent conquest. Much interest was generated by the public who ask the
girls numerous questions about the cars including the “biker” brigade of
the Festival.
As part of the
Festival the cars were obliged to part take in the procession of
vehicles which ranged from push bikes to steam engines and large Trucks
of all ages. Carbon QT and
Zebedee took their place in the procession and set off down the High
Street. However, due to
some misunderstandings when they turned left at the end of the road to
go up the by-pass they were unceremoniously “pulled over” by the Police
Land Rover with full lights and sirens blazing.
When the girls
requested the nature of the offence they were told that pedal power was
unlikely to make it around the course and would be a danger.
Despite having been part of the parade in previous years and Beth
elegantly trying to educate the local constabulary in the difference
between a “pedals” push cart and a full, 50 mph electric championship
winning racing car she was retorted in similar fashion by the engaging
police lady as “don’t give me any lip!”.
The cars were then duly loaded
on to a recovery vehicle and taken around the rest of the parade.
The rest of the
day was completed with the girls explaining details about the car and
the fact that they had not broken down on the parade.
